About Therapy

Everyone else seems to be getting somewhere.

Do you find difficult many of the things that seem to come so easily to others, like love, joy, and a sense of belonging, and confidence?

Do the things the world says “make life worth living” seem out of reach?

Does it feel like no matter what, you self-sabotage and that all your efforts get you nowhere?

The patterns repeat, and you feel more and more defeated. Life feels heavy and not worth living.

Do you have a hard time letting go, relaxing, and enjoying ANYTHING? Do anxiety and restlessness make it impossible to just… be?

We want connection, but sometimes we just can’t make it work.

You want badly to be better and to get things right.

You want others to be happy around you.

You want everything to be easier.

You get so discouraged when nothing you do seems to work.

There is another way.

When self-help, meditation, programs, and talk therapy don’t seem to help, there is another way.

At this point, you feel like you have tried everything. And you have.

You’re ready. To step off the path of exhausting and ineffective self-improvement, to give up the chase.

You as yourself: “What can I do now? I need help.”

Horses can help you heal the darkest wounds.

Horses have what feel like special powers. They help us when no one else can.

The secret is connection, body, and breath. When we stop, finally, trying so hard to figure it all out and think our way out of our problems, the horses show us a different way.

Being with ourselves as we are, allowing ourselves to access the wisdom within, the horses enter into our consciousness with their powerful messages and support. And we heal.

Feeling our feelings to their full extent while hanging out with the horses and allowing the fullness of our experience to come to the surface, while also feeling and experiencing all the ways we hold ourselves back, we heal. Finally.

You’re done. You’re free.

Whatever it is that has brought you to this place of desperation and surrender, whether it’s what happened to you as a child, what has happened to you since, or what is happening now, you’re ready to heal with something beyond your own powers.

You’re ready to transform.

Horses teach us to be our better selves.

They teach us to show up more fully as ourselves. They connect us with love, safety, and support.

And when we have access to those within, we can bring it to all the other places in our lives where we feel stuck: jobs, health, marriage, dating, parenting, school… they all benefit when we become more ourselves.

Let me tell you more about equine therapy…

I work with horses to help people heal from some of the toughest struggles we face: painful relationships, trauma, addictions, and family conflict.

I work with people on a deep level. We work with all the parts of you that need connection rather than change, and transform them through that connection. We work with your body to move through the blocks to your true and wise self.

This is for you if you feel like all that’s left for you is to give up, but you know deep down that life is worth living.

The horses and I work with the simplest things…

Namely, the breath and the body.

We start from the ground up – your feelings in the moment – and learn how to make space for all that shows up, the thoughts, emotions, memories, and associations.

We connect with the horses – in a herd, in a stall, with grooming, touch, or an activity – and tune in to them and see what happens as we interact. How you show up with them will give you clues to how you are in your life.

With individuals, families, couples, and parents…

We slow down and learn to focus on what’s happening for us on the deepest level.

Horses are BIG. They make everything BIGGER. When you interact with one horse, or the whole herd, you’ll be more aware of your movements, your breathing, your thoughts and emotions. You really feel what’s going on, because the horses make you more present and more aware of yourself in the moment.

What comes up with the horses in those moments of awareness is what is also coming up for you in your life. How you are with them is how you are with your friends, family, partners, and yourself. The way forward will become clear, as you continue to be more aware of who you really are and how you can be.

This isn’t for the faint of heart.

Healing and changing is an act of deep courage, and working with horses means business. Trusting yourself, your family, or your partner is an act of bravery. Change is always a risk… but one that will always be worth taking.

Whether we work slowly or more intensely, the horses will always show us what needs to be healed. The horses and I will ask you to trust us, trust yourself, and be honest.

That’s all it takes, and the transformation you will experience will change your life. For real.

About Me

Professional training…

I have been working with horses to help people since 2012. I am a teacher, therapist, group facilitator, and horse person.

I have certificates in Gestalt Equine Psychotherapy from the Gestalt Equine Institute of the Rockies, Equine-Assisted Mental Health from Prescott College, Holistic Horsemanship from Reach Out to Horses, and I’m a graduate of Prescott College with a Master’s in Science in Counseling, with a specialization in Couples and Families.

I have also been a faculty member of the HERD Institute and have created programming and curriculum for teens who are struggling with substance use and mental health.

Horses have always been a part of my life.

Something about them always drew me in – kept me coming back for more.

I know now what that something is: real, authentic relationship.

They show up as they are, they don’t lie or hide, and they ask the same from us.

I don’t try to change or “fix” anyone.

I don’t think anyone needs fixing – just a different way.

I teach skills, offer information, and guide people through the process of discovering the truth of their relationships and themselves… and then allow that to transform their lives.

The horses help every step of the way… for me, too.

My deepest wounds have been my greatest assets. Horses have pointed me toward myself and my truth again and again, and I have seen them offer that same gift to others.

It changes lives. It makes healing possible. It works.

When I’m not doing equine therapy…

I live in Colorado, so I do Colorado things. I rock climb with my husband and friends; go on hiking, backpacking, and camping adventures; and I hang out with my dog.

I speak Spanish and French fluently, and love to travel to places where I learn about myself through differences with others.

I am also a big nerd and know way too much about a lot of things. Watch out, because I crush it when I play trivia!
